Snap Specs: this fall

Snap announced Specs on June 16 and is taking pre-orders at $2,195 with a $200 refundable deposit. The glasses are "expected to ship this fall in the United States, United Kingdom, and France." They're standalone, with no puck or tether, and have a 51-degree field of view, two Snapdragon processors, prescription inserts and up to four hours of battery. The 47mm size weighs 132 grams and the 52mm size 136 grams. Snap has since hired Robert Downey Jr. to promote them, as we reported, and our Snap Specs guide has the full details.

XREAL Aura: on sale now, shipping in mid-November

Google said on Oct. 28 that orders for XREAL Aura "open today in the U.S., Canada, and Korea, and on November 2 in Japan," with "launch pricing starting at USD 1,099 through the end of the year." You can order at xreal.com/aura, or in the US at BestBuy.com, with shipments beginning in mid-November. Buyers must be 18 or older.

According to 9to5Google, the $1,099 launch price is for the 12GB RAM and 256GB model, which normally costs $1,279. TechCrunch reports that the 16GB and 512GB model is $1,499, with a launch price of $1,299 through December. Google doesn't state those regular prices or what Aura will cost after the launch window. XREAL said on Oct. 7 that "more markets" are coming in 2027.

The glasses weigh under 95 grams and have a 70-degree field of view. A tethered compute puck holds the battery and Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite platform, and runs Google's Android XR, Gemini and Google Play. Google says more than 150 apps made for XR come to Aura, and Google's Owlchemy Labs has announced games for launch, as we reported.

Samsung and Google's glasses: this fall

Google said at I/O on May 19 that its "intelligent eyewear" will come in two types, audio glasses and display glasses, and that "audio glasses are launching first, coming later this fall." Samsung builds the hardware, and Gentle Monster and Warby Parker design the frames. Despite the name, the audio glasses have a camera: Google says you'll be able to "snap high-quality photos and videos," ask Gemini about what you see, get directions, translate speech and text, and pair them with Android or iOS phones.

Warby Parker says it previewed the second frame in its collection at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event, and that its glasses are "coming this fall." Gentle Monster says its collection will include more designs at launch and lists up to nine hours of battery, with seven or more additional charges from the case. No one has announced a price or a release date. Our Samsung smart glasses guide collects what the companies have said so far. For more on the platform, see what Android XR is and what Gemini will do on the glasses.

Android XR display glasses: 2027 at the earliest

Google hasn't given a date for the display glasses. After the I/O keynote, Android Authority wrote that Google was "strongly implying" none would reach stores "until sometime in 2027 at the earliest."

Meta VR Glasses: spring 2027

Meta announced its VR Glasses at Connect on Sept. 23 and says they "will go on sale Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 USD," according to its announcement. They weigh about 100 grams and use micro-OLED displays and a passthrough camera, with a puck for compute and battery that lasts up to three hours of media playback. Meta says more than 75 games will be available at launch that you can play with hand gestures.

Reported, not announced

Apple hasn't announced smart glasses. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in May that Apple's first glasses, code-named N50, are expected toward the end of 2027, later than his earlier forecast of a reveal by the end of 2026, according to Engadget. MacRumors reports that the first model is rumored to skip a display and could be introduced at WWDC 2027, and that Apple's more advanced AR glasses aren't expected until 2029 at the earliest. Our Apple Glasses rumors page tracks each report.

Meta's own AR glasses don't have a date either. When it launched Meta Ray-Ban Display in 2025, Meta said it was "continuing to work on a consumer version" of its Orion AR prototype.
