Apple Glasses rumors: what Bloomberg and analysts report about Apple's smart glasses
Apple hasn't announced smart glasses, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have reported a lot about them. None of it is confirmed by Apple, and the expected release has slipped from 2026 to late 2027.

Apple has not announced smart glasses, and everything known about them comes from reports. The most detailed are from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who reported in July that Apple plans to unveil its first glasses at its WWDC developer conference in June 2027 and start shipping them in late 2027. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who tracks Apple's suppliers, also expects them in 2027. By those accounts, the first "Apple Glasses" (a nickname, since Apple hasn't named them) would be camera glasses in the mold of Meta's Ray-Bans, without a display.
This guide covers what Apple has announced and what named reporters and analysts have reported, with the date of each report. Apple hasn't confirmed any of it, and the plans have changed more than once.

What Apple has actually done
The only Apple product you wear over your eyes is Vision Pro. It updated the headset with the M5 chip in October 2025 at $3,499, and Apple's US store now lists it from $3,699. Our Vision Pro guide covers that device.
The other confirmed change is at the top of the company. Apple announced on April 20 that John Ternus, its head of hardware engineering, would succeed Tim Cook as CEO on Sept. 1, 2026, with Cook becoming executive chairman. That matters here because, according to Kuo, Ternus signed off on the overhaul of Apple's headset and glasses plans.
Apple Glasses release date: how the reports have moved
| Date of report | Source | What was reported |
|---|---|---|
| May 2025 | Bloomberg | Apple planned to launch smart glasses by the end of 2026, according to MacRumors' summary |
| Oct. 1, 2025 | Bloomberg | Apple stopped work on a lighter Vision headset to speed up glasses; first glasses could be introduced in 2026 and released in 2027 |
| May 31, 2026 | Bloomberg | Release now aimed at "late 2027" after development delays, instead of early 2027 |
| June 3, 2026 | Ming-Chi Kuo | Display-free AI glasses "still expected to ship in 2027"; glasses with a display slipped to 2029 |
| July 26, 2026 | Bloomberg | Apple plans to unveil the glasses at WWDC 2027 and ship them in late 2027 |
The October 2025 report explains the shift. Bloomberg reported that Apple had shelved a cheaper, lighter version of Vision Pro and moved engineers onto glasses to compete with Meta, according to MacRumors' summary. In June 2026, Kuo wrote on X that "only two smart glasses products remain visible in the roadmap" and that "the major overhaul was signed off by Apple's next CEO, John Ternus." Gurman replied with his own summary: "AI glasses coming end of '27 (delayed from early '27) and AR end of 2020s."
What the first Apple glasses will reportedly do
In his May 31 newsletter, as summarized by MacRumors, Gurman wrote that the glasses will have built-in cameras for photos and video, plus speakers and microphones for music, calls and notifications read by Siri. He added that they could offer turn-by-turn walking directions. Bloomberg has also reported that they will work closely with the iPhone and Siri and use computer vision to feed what the wearer sees into Apple Intelligence, MacRumors noted in April.
MacRumors added details of its own in April, citing an inside source: two cameras, one high-resolution camera for photos and video and a lower-resolution wide-angle camera that reads hand gestures and gives Siri visual input. According to that report, the first model will have no screen, LiDAR or 3D cameras because they use too much energy, and battery size is driving most of Apple's hardware decisions.
Privacy is a theme of the most recent reporting. In July, Gurman wrote that Apple is prototyping "a slew of new hardware and software-related privacy features" for the glasses, MacRumors reported. He also said Apple has considered glasses whose cameras help AI features without being able to record photos or video, and has even prototyped a version with no camera at all.
Health may come later. Gurman reported in August that Apple wants its future glasses and headsets to double as health and fitness devices, but that those features would arrive gradually over years rather than at launch, according to MacRumors.
Design and frames, as reported
Apple is designing its own frames, according to Gurman. In April he reported that Apple was testing at least four styles made from acetate, a material he called "more durable and luxurious" than the plastic most brands use. As described in his reporting:
- A large rectangular frame, similar to Ray-Ban's Wayfarer.
- A slimmer rectangular frame, like the glasses Tim Cook wears.
- Larger oval or circular frames.
- A smaller, more refined oval or circular frame.
Colors under consideration include black, ocean blue and light brown, and the cameras are described as "vertically oriented oval lenses with surrounding lights," which would set them apart from the round cameras on Meta's glasses.
Price
No price has been reported. Gurman wrote in May that the glasses will compete with products in the $200 to $500 range in the US, which describes the market Apple is entering rather than what it will charge. For reference, Meta's Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) start at $449.
Will Apple Glasses have a display?
Not at first, according to every source above. Kuo wrote in June that Apple's "display-equipped AR/XR smart glasses device, powered by optical waveguides, has slipped to 2029." Gurman puts AR glasses at the end of the decade, and wrote that a separate pair of display glasses meant to work with a Mac was canceled in January 2025, according to MacRumors.
What happened to Vision Air and Vision Pro 2
The reports agree on one cancellation and disagree on the rest. Gurman wrote that the lighter Vision Air was "killed in Oct 2025" and that a Vision Pro 2 is "in testing but category on ice." Kuo goes further and says removing the Vision Pro line from the roadmap "was the right call, as Apple shifts resources toward smart glasses with greater mass-market potential." Apple, for its part, still sells the M5 Vision Pro.
Where the glasses fit in Apple's plans
The glasses are one piece of a broader push into AI wearables. Bloomberg has reported that the plan also includes AirPods with cameras and a camera-equipped pendant, MacRumors noted. According to MacRumors' source, the glasses will use the smarter version of Siri that Apple plans to introduce with iOS 27, so you could ask it about what's around you. That makes the glasses partly a test of Apple's AI assistant against Meta AI, which already runs on Meta's glasses, and Gemini, which arrives on Samsung's glasses this fall.
Apple Glasses vs Ray-Ban Meta, based on the reports
The comparison below sets what has been reported about Apple's first glasses against what Meta has announced for its current Ray-Ban model.
| Apple glasses (reported) | Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 3) | |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Unveiling at WWDC 2027, shipping late 2027 (Bloomberg) | On sale since Sept. 23, 2026 |
| Price | Not reported | From $449 |
| Display | None in the first model | None |
| Cameras | Two: one for photos and video, one for gestures and Siri (MacRumors) | 12MP, 3K video |
| Assistant | Siri, with Apple Intelligence | Meta AI |
| Frames | Apple's own, in acetate; four styles tested (Bloomberg) | Ray-Ban, three styles |
How to read Apple Glasses reports
Both Gurman and Kuo describe plans, and plans change. Gurman's expected launch has moved from the end of 2026 to early 2027 to late 2027, and Kuo said in June that the roadmap he had published a year earlier was "no longer a useful reference." Taken together, the reports describe display-free camera glasses for iPhone owners, a project Gurman says Tim Cook treated as his top priority before handing over to Ternus, with a first public look most likely at WWDC in June 2027. By then, Meta's camera glasses will have been on sale for years, and Samsung's first pair is due in November, according to a Samsung official. Our guide to Samsung's smart glasses covers the closest rival due this year.
Frequently asked questions
When will Apple Glasses come out?
Apple hasn't said. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in July 2026 that Apple plans to unveil them at its WWDC conference in June 2027 and start shipping in late 2027. The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects them to ship in 2027.
How much will Apple Glasses cost?
There's no reported price. Gurman wrote in May 2026 that the glasses will compete with products in the $200 to $500 range in the US, which describes the market rather than Apple's price.
Will Apple Glasses have a display?
Not the first model, according to Gurman, Kuo and MacRumors. Kuo says Apple's glasses with a display, using optical waveguides, have slipped to 2029, and Gurman expects AR glasses at the end of the decade.
Will Apple Glasses need an iPhone?
Reports describe them as an iPhone accessory, like AirPods or the Apple Watch, working closely with the iPhone and Siri. Apple hasn't confirmed anything about compatibility.
Is Apple still making the Vision Pro?
Yes. Apple sells the M5 Vision Pro, which now starts at $3,699 in the US. Gurman reported that a Vision Pro 2 is in testing but that the category is "on ice," while Kuo says Apple dropped the Vision Pro line from its roadmap.
