Meta Ray-Ban Display prescription lenses, sizes and fit: what to know before you order

Meta Ray-Ban Display takes single-vision prescriptions from -4.00 to +4.00, built into the display lens when you buy, so a new prescription means a new order. The glasses come in two frame sizes, and the Neural Band comes in three.

Part of our Meta Ray-Ban Display guide

Meta Ray-Ban Display takes single-vision prescriptions from -4.00 to +4.00 total power, and the lenses have to be ordered with the glasses. Because the prescription is built into the display lens, the lenses can't be swapped, delivery takes five to eight weeks and a new prescription means a new order, according to Best Buy's prescription FAQ. The glasses come in standard and large frames, and the Neural Band comes in three sizes.

This guide is based on Best Buy's prescription FAQ, Meta's buying FAQ and announcements, and Ray-Ban's Meta Ray-Ban Display FAQ, which we read in a copy archived on May 13, 2026. We haven't tested the glasses or ordered a prescription.

Talaya graphic about Meta Ray-Ban Display prescriptions and fit: a plus or minus 4.00 total power range for single-vision lenses, five to eight weeks to deliver a prescription order, a 69 gram weight in two frame sizes and a Neural Band in three sizes

What prescription range it supports

Meta Ray-Ban Display
Total power (sphere plus cylinder)-4.00 to +4.00
CylinderUp to 4.00
CorrectionsNearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism
Lens typeSingle vision only, in polycarbonate Ray-Ban lenses with an anti-reflective coating
Progressive lensesNot compatible
TintClear-to-grey Transitions

Those figures come from Meta's buying FAQ, and Ray-Ban's and Best Buy's FAQs give the same range. Meta defines total power as sphere plus cylinder (SPH+CYL). A prescription of -3.00 sphere and -2.00 cylinder adds up to -5.00, which is outside the range, so add up each eye's numbers before you order.

If your prescription is outside the range, or you need progressives, the Display isn't an option, and Best Buy's FAQ suggests asking your eye care provider about alternatives. Most Ray-Ban Meta frames, Gen 3 included, support -12.00 to +6.00 and offer progressive lenses. Our Gen 3 comparison and Ray-Ban Meta prescription guide have the details, and our guide to prescription smart glasses compares other brands.

What you need to order

You need a valid prescription. Best Buy's FAQ says it must include your name, the exam date and the prescriber's name and signature, and that prescriptions typically expire one to two years after the issue date. You upload or enter it when you order.

Best Buy's FAQ also covers pupillary distance (PD), the distance between the centers of your pupils. A single value or one per eye both work when you order, and a wrong PD "can cause eye strain, fatigue, or difficulty seeing clearly, especially with higher prescriptions."

How the prescription is built in

The prescription is "bonded directly to the waveguide during lens fabrication," Best Buy's FAQ says. The waveguide is the component that carries the display image, and bonding the prescription to it corrects your vision "without disrupting the display" and makes each pair of lenses custom. That has several consequences:

  • You can only add a prescription when you buy the glasses. Meta's buying FAQ says lenses "cannot be swapped for Rx after purchase."
  • You can't reuse your own lenses.
  • If your prescription changes, you place a new order, because the lenses "cannot be replaced," Best Buy says.
  • Delivery takes five to eight weeks, according to both Meta and Best Buy.
  • With the display off, the glasses "function as regular prescription glasses."
  • Demos use removable prescription inserts, and "the final product does not use inserts."
  • In the US, Meta's buying FAQ lists the prescription as a $200 add-on, for $999 in total. Meta published that in October 2025, so check the price at checkout.

Prescription glasses bought through Meta's prescription site are subject to Meta's return and warranty policies, the FAQ adds, and glasses with lenses from that site or a certified retailer are eligible for return under the instructions given at purchase.

Vision insurance, FSA or HSA funds may cover the frame and lenses, according to the FAQ. Meta can't verify eligibility, so confirm with your plan before you order.

That list comes from Meta's Sept. 23 announcement and its buying FAQ. Our release dates guide has the rest of each country's rollout, and our price guide walks through ordering.

Frame sizes, weight and fitting

The glasses come in Shiny Black or Shiny Sand, in standard or large frames, all with clear-to-grey Transitions lenses. Meta says they weigh 69 grams. Ray-Ban's spec sheet lists 68 grams for the standard frame and 70 for the large one, according to our Display guide. For comparison, our Even Realities explainer lists the camera-free G2 at 36 grams.

Meta's announcements and FAQs don't give frame measurements such as lens width, bridge or temple length, and we couldn't confirm them from Ray-Ban's product page. The Meta pages we read don't say which size suits which face either, so a demo is the surest check.

After the glasses went on sale on Sept. 30, 2025, Meta made an in-person demo and fitting a requirement for buying in stores. Its buying FAQ said that way "you've tested the product, made sure you're comfortable using a monocular display, and confirmed you've got the right size and fit."

Online ordering is now a second route. It opened on Sept. 23, 2026, in the US, UK and Canada and on Oct. 13 in France, Italy and Germany. Meta's announcement says online ordering comes with "a new digital sizing tool to help customers find the right size," and that its stores in the new markets are for "trying on the glasses, and finding the right fit." Per Meta's help center, as our price guide explains, the tool measures your wrist to pick a Neural Band size. The pages we read don't describe a tool for choosing between the standard and large frame, and they don't say whether stores still require a demo before a sale.

At a demo, an associate sizes the Neural Band and shows you where and how tightly to wear it. In the US, select Meta Lab, Ray-Ban, LensCrafters and Best Buy stores offer demos with prescription inserts, so you can try the display through your own prescription. Meta's buying FAQ says to bring your prescription details or wear contact lenses.

Neural Band sizes

The band is part of the fit. It comes in sizes 1 (small), 2 (medium) and 3 (large), and Meta's buying FAQ calls the fitting "critical" so the sensors sit where they can pick up the muscle signals in your wrist. Ray-Ban's FAQ says to wear it on the hand you write with, just past the wrist bone, snug with the clasp closed and the compute module on top of your wrist. If gestures don't register, it says to check the position and the size first. Our Neural Band explainer covers every gesture and the sizing tool.

Before you order: a checklist

  1. Add up sphere and cylinder for each eye. The total has to fall between -4.00 and +4.00, and the cylinder can't be more than 4.00.
  2. Check that you don't need progressive lenses, which aren't compatible.
  3. Make sure your prescription is valid, with your name, the exam date and the prescriber's name and signature.
  4. Have your PD ready.
  5. Plan for five to eight weeks of waiting, and remember that a new prescription means a new order.
  6. Book a demo if you can, to check the frame size, the band and how the display looks through your prescription.
  7. Ask your insurance or HSA or FSA plan what it covers.

Frequently asked questions

What prescription range does Meta Ray-Ban Display support?

Can I change my prescription after I buy Meta Ray-Ban Display?

Not on the same lenses. The prescription is bonded to the display lens, so a new prescription means a new order, and lenses can't be swapped.

How long does a prescription order take?

Meta and Best Buy both say five to eight weeks, because each pair of lenses is custom-made and integrated into the display.

Can I wear prescription Meta Ray-Ban Display with the display off?

Yes. Best Buy's FAQ says they function as regular prescription glasses when the display is off.

What sizes does Meta Ray-Ban Display come in?

Two frame sizes, standard and large, in Shiny Black or Shiny Sand, plus a Neural Band in sizes 1 (small), 2 (medium) and 3 (large). Meta says the glasses weigh 69 grams, and Ray-Ban's spec sheet lists 68 grams for the standard frame and 70 for the large, as our Display guide notes.

Do I need a store fitting to buy Meta Ray-Ban Display?

Not if you order online. After the 2025 launch, Meta made an in-person demo and fitting a requirement for store purchases. Online ordering opened on Sept. 23, 2026, in the US, UK and Canada and on Oct. 13 in France, Italy and Germany, with a digital sizing tool for the Neural Band. Demos are still available through Meta's demo finder.
