Part of our Ray-Ban Meta guide

Yes, Ray-Ban Meta glasses take prescription lenses. Meta's help center lists an eligible range of -12.00 to +6.00 total power, and single-vision, progressive and Transitions lenses are all offered. You can order a pair with your prescription from Ray-Ban.com or Meta's prescription site, buy one from a certified optical retailer, or have a retailer fit lenses into glasses you already own. The lenses cost extra, starting at $225 at Ray-Ban's list prices.

This guide is based on Meta's help center and newsroom, EssilorLuxottica's announcements and brochures for opticians, the prescription FAQ on Best Buy's Meta glasses page and Ray-Ban's US lens prices as listed on Oct. 25, 2026. We haven't ordered or worn prescription pairs.

Which Ray-Ban Meta glasses take prescriptions

Meta's help center says Ray-Ban Meta glasses are compatible with prescription lenses and puts the eligible range at -12.00 to +6.00 total power, with one listed exception: the Gen 3 Aviator supports -6.00 to +4.00. Best Buy's prescription FAQ writes the same range as sphere plus cylinder (SPH+CYL). Since the limit is stated as total power, ask an optician to check your numbers against it.

For the Gen 3 Wayfarer, Meta's compare page says only that it "supports most prescriptions." Meta calls both Ray-Ban Meta Audio styles "compatible with a wide range of optical prescriptions" and gives no figures. Older pairs work too. Meta said in 2023 that it had "made them prescription-lens compatible," and EssilorLuxottica's brochures list prescription lenses as available for Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Optics frames made for prescriptions

On March 31, 2026, Meta introduced Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics (Gen 2) as its first prescription-optimized AI glasses. They have overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads and temple tips an optician can adjust, and Meta says they "support nearly all prescriptions." EssilorLuxottica's brochure lists "Lens BASE 4 for extended Rx range" for them. They start at $499 and are sold with clear demo lenses that your own lenses replace.

Ray-Ban.com also sells "made for prescription" Optics versions of the Gen 3 Wayfarer, Aviator and Zena at $449 for the frame, and of the Audio Clubmaster and Burbank at $349, with lenses extra.

Lens types

Single vision, progressive and Transitions lenses are all on offer. EssilorLuxottica said on March 31 that the Ray-Ban Meta portfolio "can be paired with advanced single-vision lenses, progressive lenses or Transitions lenses." Meta's prescription page says "Transitions, progressives and single vision all available," and Best Buy's FAQ adds that lenses come in clear, sun, Transitions and polarized options. Meta Ray-Ban Display is the exception: Best Buy's FAQ says it takes single-vision lenses only.

Ray-Ban's lens menu for a Gen 3 Wayfarer Optics frame offered four families, each as single vision or progressive: clear, Ray-Ban Blue Light Ease, sun (with polarized options) and Transitions. EssilorLuxottica's brochure for opticians says every Ray-Ban Meta frame is available with premium Essilor and Transitions lenses, and it names Varilux progressives and Eyezen single-vision lenses among them.

What prescription lenses cost

Lenses are priced separately from the frame. These are the list prices Ray-Ban's lens configurator showed for a Gen 3 Wayfarer Optics frame on Oct. 25:

Lens typeSingle visionProgressive
Clear$225$405
Ray-Ban Blue Light Ease$305$485
Sun (polarized options available)$370$560
Transitions$420$600

With the $449 frame, clear single-vision lenses bring a pair to $674 and Transitions progressives to $1,049. Ray-Ban was taking 46% off those lens prices at checkout that day, so look for current offers before you pay. Our Ray-Ban Meta price guide covers frames, tints and prices outside the US.

Where to get them

Meta's help center lists Ray-Ban.com first: you can order Ray-Ban Meta glasses with prescription lenses directly from Ray-Ban.com.

Meta also runs a prescription site. On Best Buy's product pages, a "Shop prescription lenses" link takes you to it to finish the order. Orders there currently support prescriptions from -6.00 to +6.00, a narrower span than the frames' published range.

Optical retailers and Ray-Ban stores are the third route. Meta's help center refers to "participating certified retailers" that can sell the glasses with your lenses or add lenses to a pair you own, and Meta's prescription page points shoppers to Ray-Ban.com and Oakley.com to find Rx glasses near them. EssilorLuxottica lists LensCrafters and Sunglass Hut among the optical retail locations that carry the Optics frames, and Ray-Ban says select stores take appointments for the Ray-Ban Meta collection. Call ahead to confirm a store can fit lenses in the style you want.

How to order

  1. Check your prescription. Best Buy's FAQ says a valid one lists the patient's name, the exam date and the prescriber's name and signature, and that prescriptions typically expire one to two years after the issue date. If yours has lapsed, you'll need a new one.
  2. Find your pupillary distance (PD), the distance in millimeters between the centers of your pupils. Your prescription may list one number or two, and either works.
  3. Pick a frame and size: a standard style or an Optics frame.
  4. Pick clear, sun, Transitions or polarized lenses, and single vision or progressive.
  5. Upload or hand over your prescription, check the final price and place the order.

How long it takes

Best Buy's FAQ says Ray-Ban Meta prescription orders through Meta's site take up to 14 days and points you to order tracking for current estimates. For Meta Ray-Ban Display, whose prescription is built into the lens, it gives five to eight weeks. The pages we read give no timeline for Ray-Ban.com or in-store orders, so ask the seller when you order.

Insurance, FSA and HSA

Best Buy's FAQ says your frame and lens purchase may be eligible for vision insurance reimbursement or for FSA and HSA funds. You submit your receipt to your provider, and the FAQ asks you to confirm coverage in advance because Meta cannot verify eligibility. Ray-Ban's site also lets you apply insurance benefits at checkout for prescription eyewear, and EssilorLuxottica told opticians that the Optics styles "are eligible by default for most insurance plans." What your plan pays is up to your insurer.

Warranty and returns

For glasses you already own, Best Buy's FAQ is direct: "The manufacturer warranty will remain intact only if prescription lenses are added at a certified retailer." EssilorLuxottica's brochure says the Ray-Ban Meta warranty "is not impacted by the addition of prescription lenses when the proper mounting process is followed." The brochure's instructions for opticians call for cold mounting only, with no heat when the lenses go in. If a non-certified shop added your lenses, the FAQ tells you to contact that shop and check its warranty terms.

Pairs bought with prescription lenses from Meta's prescription site or a certified retailer can be returned by following the instructions given at purchase.

If your prescription is outside the range

The FAQ recommends talking to your eye care provider about alternatives and visiting a certified retailer that supports a wider range. The published range stops at -12.00 to +6.00, and the Gen 3 Aviator's is narrower, so a strong prescription can fit one style and not another.

Other brands and models

Oakley Meta, Meta Ray-Ban Display and Even Realities have different ranges and ordering routes, which our guide to prescription smart glasses compares. If you haven't chosen a model yet, start with our complete Ray-Ban Meta guide, then see how Gen 3 compares with Gen 2.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add prescription lenses to Ray-Ban Meta glasses I already own?

Yes. Meta's help center says participating certified retailers can add prescription lenses to Ray-Ban Meta glasses you already have. Best Buy's prescription FAQ adds that the manufacturer warranty stays intact only if a certified retailer does the work.

Do Gen 1 and Gen 2 Ray-Ban Meta glasses take prescription lenses?

Yes. Meta said at the 2023 launch that it had "made them prescription-lens compatible," and EssilorLuxottica's brochure for opticians lists prescription lenses as available for both Gen 1 and Gen 2. Meta gives one range, -12.00 to +6.00, for Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the Gen 3 Aviator aside.

Can I pay for prescription Ray-Ban Meta glasses with an FSA, an HSA or vision insurance?

Possibly. The FAQ on Best Buy's Meta prescription page says the frame and lenses may qualify for insurance reimbursement or FSA and HSA funds, and asks you to confirm coverage first because Meta cannot verify eligibility.

What if my prescription is outside the supported range?

The prescription FAQ on Best Buy's Meta page says orders on Meta.com currently support -6.00 to +6.00. For anything outside that, it points you to a certified retailer with a wider range and suggests asking your eye care provider about alternatives. The frames' published range stops at -12.00 to +6.00.

Can I return Ray-Ban Meta glasses that have prescription lenses?

Best Buy's prescription FAQ says pairs bought with prescription lenses from Meta's prescription site or a certified retailer can be returned, following the instructions given at purchase. If a non-certified shop added the lenses, contact that shop and check its terms.
