Oura membership explained: what it costs and what you get without it

Oura Membership costs $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US. Without it, an Oura Ring shows three daily scores and little else. What the fee pays for, what it adds up to and how canceling works.

Part of our Oura guide

Oura Membership costs $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year in the US, before tax. Every new Oura account gets its first month included with the ring, and the membership applies to Oura Ring Gen3 and newer, including the current Oura Ring 5. Without it, the ring still works, but the app shows only three daily scores and a few basics.

This explainer is based on Oura's help center and membership pages, current as of Oct. 25, 2026.

How much Oura Membership costs

Oura lists these prices for monthly and annual plans:

RegionMonthlyAnnual
US$5.99 (before tax)$69.99 (before tax)
CanadaCA$7.99 (before tax)CA$89.99 (before tax)
UK£5.99£69.99
European Union€5.99€69.99
AustraliaA$9.99A$109.99
Japan¥999¥11,800
Rest of world$6.99$79.00

UK, EU, Australian and Japanese prices include tax. Twelve monthly payments in the US come to $71.88, so the annual plan saves $1.89 a year. When you buy a ring from Oura's online store, you can also prepay a year of membership at checkout; the prepaid year starts after the included month.

You can pay with PayPal or a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card, and Oura says you can add HSA and FSA cards in the Membership Hub. Oura gift cards, financing and buy-now-pay-later services can't be used for membership fees.

What the membership includes

Oura's help center describes membership as access to all of Oura's features and data. During the included first month, everything works except Body Clock, Chronotypes and the monthly, yearly and anniversary reports, which need more than 30 days of data. In practice, membership means everything beyond the three headline scores:

  • The detail behind Sleep, Readiness and Activity: sleep stages, heart rate variability (HRV), resting heart rate, temperature trends, steps, calories and daytime stress.
  • Longer-term measures such as cardiovascular age and resilience to stress.
  • Oura Advisor, the app's AI assistant, which needs a Gen3 or newer ring and an active membership.
  • Health Radar, which brings together Symptom Radar, Nighttime Breathing and Blood Pressure Signals, also for Gen3 and newer with a membership. Oura says it does not diagnose or monitor any condition.
  • GLP-1 Insights and the other features Oura announced alongside Ring 5, which it says reach members with Gen3 and newer rings.
  • Multi-ring support, which lets one account switch between several rings (Oura Ring 4 or later).
  • New features as Oura adds them.

Some extras cost more even with a membership. Health Panels, which books a blood test covering 50 biomarkers at a Quest Diagnostics lab, costs $99 per test, requires an active membership and is available only in the US, excluding Arizona, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Health Radar's links to partners ResMed and Counsel Health are also US only.

What an Oura Ring does without a membership

Without an active membership, Oura says, you see your three daily scores (Readiness, Activity and Sleep), the ring's battery level, basic profile information, app settings and the Explore content. You can't use the Oura API, but you can still download your data from the Membership Hub.

The scores rate your night and your readiness, but the sleep stages, heart rate and temperature data behind them stay locked. Wired's review of Oura Ring 5 listed "Subscription still feels mandatory" among its drawbacks.

Owners of the older Oura Ring Gen2 are the exception: they don't need a membership and aren't charged, though Oura says many newer features don't work on that hardware. Lifetime memberships, which some Gen3 owners received in an earlier promotion, are no longer sold.

What an Oura Ring really costs over time

The ring is a one-time cost and the membership keeps going. Here is the total for an Oura Ring 5 on the annual plan, before tax. The first annual charge comes after the included month, so each payment covers the 12 months that follow.

Time ownedSilver or Black ($399)Gold, Brushed Silver, Deep Rose or Stealth ($499)
First year$468.99$568.99
Two years$538.98$638.98
Three years$608.97$708.97

For comparison, Samsung's Galaxy Ring is listed at $299.99 on Samsung's US store, and Samsung said at launch that its data lives in Samsung Health without a subscription. The Ultrahuman Ring Pro costs $479 in the US with its charging case, and Ultrahuman says there are no recurring fees to access your data. Ultrahuman does sell optional extras: individual paid PowerPlugs and an Ultrahuman Max plan from $9.99 a month. Our comparison of the three rings has the full numbers.

How to cancel, switch plans or rejoin

You manage the membership in the Oura app: open the menu at the top left of the Today screen, tap Settings, scroll to Account and tap Manage membership. The same options are in the Membership Hub on the web.

  1. To switch between monthly and annual, change the plan in the Membership Hub. The change takes effect when the current billing period ends.
  2. To cancel, use the Cancel membership option. Cancel during the included first month and you won't be charged.
  3. After you cancel a paid plan, you keep full access until the end of the period you paid for. Oura doesn't give partial refunds for canceled annual or prepaid plans once the included month is over.
  4. There is no option to pause. To come back, renew in the Membership Hub after your included month or current billing period ends.

Canceling keeps your data. As long as you don't delete your account, your data stays saved and reappears when you rejoin, and you can export it as a CSV file at any time. Deleting your account from the Membership Hub permanently removes the account and its data.

New rings and second rings

Your membership belongs to your Oura account, not to the ring. When you upgrade or replace a ring, it moves over as soon as you pair the new one, whatever plan you have. A ring added to an existing account doesn't come with another free month.

If you own more than one ring, multi-ring support lets you keep them all on one account and switch between them in the app, as long as they are Oura Ring 4 or later. Wired's reviewer used it to alternate between a Ring 4 Ceramic and a Ring 5 without paying for a second membership. Only the ring set as active syncs its data to the app.

Prepaid, gifted and employer memberships

A prepaid year bought with a ring is applied automatically to the first Oura account created during setup, and once it's applied, it can't be moved to another account. Oura still asks for a payment method when you activate it but doesn't charge it until the prepaid period ends, which comes after the included first month.

If you give someone an Oura Ring with a prepaid plan, they still get their own included month. They'll be asked for payment details when they pair the ring, but won't be billed until the prepaid period is over.

Some people get Oura through an employer or another organization. When that membership is about to end, Oura sends an email and a notice in the Membership Hub with a "Continue membership" button for adding your own payment method.

To switch the currency you pay in, from US dollars to Canadian dollars for example, you have to cancel and renew on your next billing date. Oura also closed its web dashboard, Oura on the Web, on Oct. 5, 2026; your data remains in the app and can be downloaded from the Membership Hub.

Is it worth paying for?

If you want Oura for its detailed data and newer features, budget for the membership from the start, because the free tier stops at the three scores. If you'd rather not pay monthly, the Galaxy Ring and Ultrahuman Ring Pro track sleep, heart rate and activity without a required fee; our Oura Ring guide and the best smart rings guide cover the other differences.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an Oura membership free trial?

New members get one month of membership included with the ring. It starts when you pair the ring, can't be paused, and you aren't charged until it ends. Cancel before then and you pay nothing.

Do I need a second membership for a second Oura Ring?

No. Membership belongs to your Oura account, and with multi-ring support (Oura Ring 4 or later) you can switch between rings on one membership. A new ring added to an existing account doesn't come with another free month.

Does Oura offer a lifetime membership?

Not anymore. Oura says some Gen3 owners have a lifetime membership from an earlier promotion, which stays with their account, but it can't be bought today.

What happens to my Oura data if I cancel?

It stays saved as long as you don't delete your account, and it reappears when you rejoin. You can also export everything as a CSV file from the Membership Hub without an active membership.

Can I pay for an Oura membership with HSA or FSA funds?

Oura says you can add HSA and FSA cards in the Membership Hub, and its FSA and HSA page lists the membership among eligible products, subject to your provider's rules. The IRS says it depends on why you buy and use the device, as our HSA and FSA guide explains. Check with your plan administrator.
