Ray-Ban Meta microphone or speakers not working: fixes for calls, Meta AI and music
If people can't hear you on calls, Meta AI keeps mishearing you or music won't play through your Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the fix depends on which direction the sound is failing. Here are Meta's steps for both.

Part of our Ray-Ban Meta guide
When Ray-Ban Meta glasses have sound problems, first work out which direction is failing. If people can't hear you on calls or Meta AI keeps getting your words wrong, it's the microphones, and Meta's fix is to check the voice settings and then switch the glasses to a different set of microphones. If you can't hear anything, make sure the arms are open, swipe forward on the touchpad to raise the volume and keep your phone close with other Bluetooth devices disconnected.
This guide is based on Meta's help center. Meta describes the same audio controls for Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta and Meta Glasses.
If people can't hear you, or Meta AI mishears you
Meta lists three signs of a microphone problem: "Hey Meta" gives inconsistent or wrong responses because the glasses didn't catch what you said, people can't hear you clearly on calls, and your videos have poor audio. Work through these steps in order:
- Check the voice settings. In the Meta AI app, tap Glasses in the top right, then Device settings, your glasses, Meta AI and "Hey Meta" preferences. Make sure "Hey Meta" and Wake sound are both on. If only the wake word fails while calls sound fine, our guide to fixing "Hey Meta" covers battery saver and the other causes.
- Switch microphones. In Device settings for your glasses, scroll down to Help and support and turn on Microphone troubleshooting. Meta says this switches the glasses to a different set of microphones. Then try a call or a voice command again.
- Check that you aren't muted. During a call, you can say "Hey Meta" followed by "Unmute," according to Meta, and the same voice controls handle Mute, Hang up and End call.
- Unpair and pair again. If switching microphones doesn't help, Meta's next step is to unpair the glasses in the Meta AI app and pair them again.
- Factory reset. Meta lists a factory reset as the last step. It erases your content and settings, including the photos and videos on the glasses.
Meta's microphone article also points to its care and cleaning tips, which call for a dampened cloth and mild soap, never alcohol, solvents or running water.
If you can't hear anything
- Open the arms. Meta says audio streaming pauses when you close the arms, and the glasses reconnect to your audio source over Bluetooth when you open them again.
- Turn it up. Swipe forward on the touchpad on the right temple to raise the volume, or say "Hey Meta, volume up." If you muted the glasses by voice, say "Hey Meta, unmute."
- Press play. A single tap on the touchpad pauses or plays audio. A double tap skips forward and a triple tap skips back.
- Move your phone closer. For connection errors, Meta suggests moving closer to your phone, keeping it in front of you or in a front pocket, and turning off or disconnecting other Bluetooth devices.
- Check adaptive volume. This setting raises the volume in noisy places and lowers it in quiet ones. Find it under Glasses, Device settings, your glasses, Audio and Adaptive volume. Meta notes that battery saver turns automatic volume adjustment off.
- Restart the glasses. Slide the power switch back, wait a few seconds and slide it forward. Meta says a restart won't erase photos or unpair the glasses. If that doesn't work, unpair and pair again as above.
If music won't play or keeps pausing
Wear detection is the feature that tells the glasses you're wearing them, and Meta says auto-pause and auto-play for music stop working if you turn it off.
Battery saver doesn't block music. Meta says you can still listen to music and podcasts and make and receive calls with it on.
If you play music through an app you've connected in the Meta AI app, such as Spotify, and that connection stops working, Meta's app connection steps are to update the glasses, update the Meta AI app and the music app, disconnect and reconnect it under App connections, and restart the glasses.
Setting up calls
To call from the glasses, you first connect Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram or your phone in the Meta AI app: tap Glasses, then Device settings, your glasses, Communication and Connect next to the service. You can then say "Hey Meta, call" and a name, and answer or decline incoming calls with "Hey Meta, answer" or "Hey Meta, decline." Meta notes that emergency calls, such as 911 in the US, must be started on your phone.
Protect your hearing
Meta warns that covering the speakers and your ears, for example with close-fitting hats, your hands or protective headphones, can push sound pressure to levels that could damage your hearing. Turn the volume down in those situations.
When to contact Meta support
If the microphones still fail after you've switched them, paired the glasses again and tried a factory reset, or you still hear nothing after a restart, contact Meta Store Support with the Get support button at the bottom of any article in Meta's AI glasses help center.
Frequently asked questions
Why does music stop when I fold my Ray-Ban Meta glasses?
It's designed to. Meta says audio streaming pauses when you close the arms, and the glasses reconnect to your audio source over Bluetooth when you open them again.
Can I call 911 from Ray-Ban Meta glasses?
No. Meta says emergency calls, such as 911 in the US, must be started from your phone.
Does battery saver turn off the speakers or microphones?
No. Meta says calls, music and podcasts keep working in battery saver. It pauses "Hey Meta" and automatic volume adjustment, so use the touchpad for Meta AI and set the volume yourself.
How do I turn up the volume on Ray-Ban Meta glasses?
Swipe forward on the touchpad on the right temple, or say "Hey Meta, volume up." Swiping back turns it down.
