Meta AI vs Gemini vs Siri: what each assistant can do on wearables

Meta AI owns smart glasses, Gemini is on watches, earbuds and a headset with glasses coming, and Siri just got rebuilt for the Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro. Here is what each assistant can actually do on the devices you wear, and which one fits your phone.

Meta AI, Gemini and Siri have split the body between them. Of the three, only Meta AI runs in camera glasses you can buy today. Gemini runs on the widest range of devices, from Wear OS watches and earbuds to Samsung's Galaxy XR headset, with Android XR glasses due this fall. Siri is the assistant on the Apple Watch, AirPods and Vision Pro, and on Sept. 14 Apple replaced it with Siri AI, a rebuilt version that's rolling out in English first.

This comparison is based on each company's help pages, specifications and announcements. We haven't run the three assistants side by side, and features vary by country and language.

The last row decides a lot. Gemini on a watch needs a connection to an Android device, according to Google's help page, and Siri needs Apple hardware. Meta's glasses work with either phone, because the Meta AI app they depend on is on both the App Store and Google Play.

Meta AI: built around glasses

Meta's assistant does the most on your face, because it can use the camera. Say "Hey Meta" or tap and hold the touchpad and you can take photos and video, call and message through WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram or your phone, play music and ask general questions, according to Meta's help center. Ask about your surroundings and the glasses send a photo to Meta's cloud and answer out loud: describe a scene, translate a sign, read a phone number and call it. In a live AI session, available in English in the US and Canada, the camera and microphone stay on so you can keep asking follow-ups.

Live translation covers 20 languages, six of them offline after a download. Meta AI itself speaks 13 languages on glasses, from English and Spanish to Hindi, Japanese and Korean, with 18 more through partners and fewer features. Since April, Meta has been rolling out its Muse Spark model behind it in the US and Canada, and Meta says its Muse agent comes to the glasses "in the coming months."

The gaps are elsewhere on your body. Meta doesn't sell a watch or earbuds. The Meta Neural Band on your wrist is an input device for Meta Ray-Ban Display, not an assistant of its own, and the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio, which Meta says packs "the power of earbuds and AI" into glasses, is its answer to earbuds. Our Meta AI guide covers every feature by model.

Gemini: on the most devices

On a Wear OS watch, Gemini can help you stay connected, handle tasks across apps, answer questions, recall details and control music, Google says. It requires Wear OS 4 or later, a connected Android phone with Gemini set as its assistant, and an eligible language and region. You start it with "Hey Google," a button, a watch-face complication or a tile, and on some watches by raising your wrist to your mouth. Google's new Pixel Watch 5, which starts at $399, processes core actions on the device so they work instantly even offline, and adds proactive suggestions, such as surfacing a dinner time from your calendar when someone asks.

On headphones, Gemini answers when it's your phone's assistant: say "Hey Google" on Gemini-enabled or Google Assistant-enabled headphones, or "Hey Google, let's talk" to start a Gemini Live conversation, according to Google's headphones page. It can read your notifications aloud, and on headphones with on-head detection you only need to unlock your phone once while you wear them.

On Samsung's Galaxy XR headset, Gemini is built into Android XR and can discuss the apps and windows around you, and your room if you turn on view sharing. The audio glasses Google previewed in May will answer questions about what you see, give turn-by-turn directions, summarize messages, edit photos with Nano Banana, translate in a voice that matches the speaker's tone and pitch, and handle multi-step tasks, and they pair with both Android phones and iPhones. Our guide to Gemini on Android XR goes into detail.

Siri: rebuilt, but only for Apple devices

Apple released Siri AI on Sept. 14 with watchOS 27, iOS 27 and visionOS 27. Apple describes it as an entirely new Siri with personal context, onscreen awareness, more app actions and answers drawn from the web, and a new Siri app that syncs your conversations through iCloud between your iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and Vision Pro.

Siri AI comes with limits. It's rolling out in beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish due the following month. It requires an Apple Intelligence device, which on the wrist means Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later or SE 3 paired with an Apple Intelligence iPhone, and on the phone means iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 16 or later model. Apple says it won't be available initially in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS, or in China, and that some features have daily usage limits.

On the Apple Watch, Siri AI handles open-ended questions and tasks like sharing your flight details or setting a new Activity goal, and a new app grid keeps the Siri app front and center. Our Apple Watch guide covers the current models. Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 also get Audio Intelligence features later this year, including Live Rewind, which shows the last 15 seconds of a conversation as text, and Siri Recap, which summarizes conversations if you turn it on.

On AirPods, you can say "Siri" or "Hey Siri" on AirPods 4, AirPods 5, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Max 2, have Siri announce calls and notifications, and answer by nodding or shaking your head. AirPods Pro 3 can start workouts by voice. On Vision Pro, Siri AI can see what you see through Visual Intelligence, and you can talk to it just by looking at it.

On headsets, Gemini on Galaxy XR can see your room once you turn on view sharing, and Siri AI on Vision Pro uses Visual Intelligence to answer questions about what you're looking at. Among these three companies, a camera you can wear all day with an assistant behind it means Meta for now. Apple's alternative is a $3,699 headset, and Google's is a $1,799.99 headset until its glasses ship. Apple's own glasses are only a report: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has said Apple aims to release smart glasses in late 2027, MacRumors reported. Our Apple Glasses rumors guide has the rest.

Translation on your body

All three translate conversations, with different hardware. Meta's glasses translate 20 languages and show the other person a transcript in the Meta AI app, as described in Meta's translation guide. Apple's Live Translation with AirPods works on AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation, AirPods 5, AirPods Pro 2 and later and AirPods Max 2, paired with an iPhone 15 Pro or later running iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence on, and Apple says the processing happens on the iPhone. Google says its audio glasses will translate both speech and text you look at, in a voice that matches the speaker.

Privacy, briefly

Each company makes different promises. Meta stores voice interactions from its glasses by default and removed the option to turn that off, though you can delete recordings, according to its help center. Google makes view sharing on Galaxy XR something you turn on, warns you to keep passwords and medications out of view, and asks for consent again if you turn it off and back on. Apple says the Siri app syncs conversations privately through iCloud, Live Translation runs on your iPhone, and Apple Watch's Audio Intelligence features don't create or store audio recordings.

Which one fits you

Judged on what each company has shipped and announced, the phone in your pocket narrows the choice. With an iPhone, Siri is already on your Apple Watch and AirPods, and Meta's glasses add a camera assistant that works alongside them. With an Android phone, Gemini covers your watch and earbuds, and you can choose between Meta's glasses now or Google's audio glasses when they arrive. If what you want most is an assistant that sees what you see, Meta AI is the only one of the three you can wear in ordinary glasses in October 2026.
