Meta Quest 4: what Meta has said, what reports claim, what is unknown
Meta has not announced a Quest 4. Here is what the company has said about future headsets, what it did announce instead, and which claims come only from outlet reports.

Meta has not announced a Quest 4. No page we read from the company gives a name, release date, specs or price for a next Quest headset. What Meta has said is that more headsets are on a roadmap and that it will only ship new devices when it has major breakthroughs. The VR device it did announce at Connect 2026 carries a different name: Meta VR Glasses. This guide is based on Meta's own pages and earnings-call transcript, plus one outlet report that we label as a report. Where we could not read a primary page, we say so.

What Meta has actually said
In a 2026 post for developers titled "Our Renewed Focus in 2026," Meta wrote: "We have a robust roadmap of future VR headsets that will be tailored to different audience segments as the market grows and matures." The post gives no names or dates. It also says Meta didn't launch any new devices in 2025, and that it is "explicitly separating our Quest VR platform from our Worlds platform in order to create more space for both products to grow."
In prepared remarks for the Q3 2026 earnings call, dated Oct. 21, Meta said it is changing its approach to virtual reality "to only ship new devices when we have major breakthroughs like we had with the Meta VR Glasses this year," according to the transcript. The remark gives no date for any device.
On the same call, Meta said Reality Labs revenue fell 6% in the quarter, to $443 million, "due to lower Quest headset sales." Meta now expects Reality Labs losses for 2026 to land in a range of $18 billion to $19 billion, and expects them to narrow to around $15 billion next year.
What Meta announced instead
At Connect on Sept. 23 and 24, Meta introduced VR Glasses. According to Meta's Connect recap, they "will be available in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99 USD." The recap says "at about 100 grams, Meta VR Glasses are five times lighter than Meta Quest 3." Meta's newsroom post says the glasses weigh "roughly the same as a deck of cards."
Neither page calls the product a Quest 4. The recap mentions Quest only as a games platform, in a section titled "A Wave of New Games for Meta VR Glasses and Quest." The newsroom post does not mention Quest, the price or the spring 2027 date. Our VR Glasses guide covers the device, and our Connect 2026 roundup covers the rest of the event.
What reports claim
One outlet report is worth knowing about, with the caveat that it is not a Meta statement. On Dec. 10, 2025, Road to VR reported, citing internal memos obtained by Business Insider, that Meta is working on a next-generation Quest "said to focus on immersive gaming." The same article says the next Quest is "said to represent a 'large upgrade' in capabilities from current devices."
That article also describes a separate puck-tethered headset called Phoenix, whose release was pushed to the first half of 2027 according to the memos. Phoenix is not a Quest. The piece is from December 2025, before Connect and before the earnings remark above, so the plans it describes may have changed. The memos give no Quest release date.
What is still unknown
- The name, date, specs and price of any Quest 4. Meta has given none.
- Whether a next Quest ships in 2027. Neither Meta's pages nor the December report say.
- Whether a gaming-focused headset is planned. Only the outlet report says so.
- Whether VR Glasses replace or sit beside future Quest headsets. Meta hasn't said.
What this means if you are shopping
There is nothing announced to wait for, and Meta has tied new devices to "major breakthroughs" without giving a timeline. If you want a headset now, the question is Quest 3 or Quest 3S. Talaya's Quest 3 vs Quest 3S guide compares the two current models and their US prices, and our best VR headsets list sets them against headsets from Valve, Samsung, Apple and Sony. We could not read Meta's US price pages for this guide, so check the current price before you buy.
If you would rather wait for something lighter, Meta says VR Glasses arrive in spring 2027 for $1,299.99.
